Cubs showing interest again in Khalil Greene?

Tuesday:

I was informed that the link to the San Diego Tribune no longer works, which probably means the entire thing could have been made up by the newspaper. So it looks like the Cubs might not be interested in Khalil Greene after all.

Monday:

The Cubs have supposedly inquired about San Diego Padres shortstop Khalil Greene. The Padres won't be trading Greene though, because he sucks. No really, that's the reason. Greene is batting .216/.264/.329 at the break. His trade value is so low right now, the Padres refuse to trade him.

Why would the Cubs want him anyways? Would he take Ronny Cedeno's role? Are the Cubs worried that Ryan Theriot will burn out like he did last September?
Are the Cubs short on the prerequisite of a tranny-look-alike on the squad?
